Electric Field of a Point Charge

Electric Field Due to a Point Charge

5

A point charge \( Q \) generates an electric field \( \vec{E} \) in the surrounding space. The field at any distance \( r \) is: \[ \vec{E} = \frac{1}{4\pi\epsilon_0} \cdot \frac{Q}{r^2} \hat{r} \] This field is:

  • Radial — pointing outward for positive charges.
  • Inward — for negative charges.
  • Stronger near the charge, weaker farther away.
Use the slider to change the charge value. Positive values show outward field, negative values show inward field.
